ANDY's EULOGY

I would firstly like to thank everyone for coming today. To Shirley and all of the family it means very much. Also immense gratitude to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Research Institute where mum spent the last 18 months fighting a nasty stomach tumour – lung infection. Their support and care were invaluable through this time. It also meant every 3 months mum travelled to Melbourne for treatment and spent quality time with her favourite son – me! The Exit Australia Euthanasia Society only really came to our attention in mum’s last week of life after giving in to the ugly lung infection she contracted. To watch a loved one slowly die from a terminal disease, overdosed in drugs, willing to let go but having no say in their final destiny is quite distressing for all involved. Thanks to m two brothers Chris and Tim. Ever since mum’s diagnosis our relationship is much closer and has blossomed. And to my father John, for his continued creative inspiration found in all the bompies and his undying love for his longest, greatest friend Charlo. And to Kersti, the backbone of this family, who constantly reminds us how important family is and – how important she is! We owe her a lot. And finally Shirl, my mum. Her amazing knowledge, mild manner, aloof humour, that knowing grin, whimsical smile and pure beauty won us all over. I love you mum. But now I love you even more. Thanks. Andy.
